Sixty-five year old “Defense of the Ancients” (DOTA 2)
player was spotted on head to head matches with players a third of his age. Younger
gamers gave their respect to the grandfather gamer. Though surprised at first because of the
generation gap, they realized that he is competitive enough to play with them
on this Massively Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game.
Tony “Lolo Cris” Matulac starts his game routine early in the
morning, have a lunch break then continue on playing until 6 PM. His internet café of choice is at Lapaz,
Iloilo, Philippines. Within this time,
he was spotted by the onlookers and his picture uploaded onto the Facebook page
called Dota 2 Philippines. From this
point on, the post went viral and got noticed by the GMA news network.
In an interview by the news network, he said that playing
the game improved his health ever since his hospitalization on 2012 for a heart
ailment. After he recovered from the ailment, he first tried
going to an internet café and there he was introduced to DOTA 2. No one taught him to play DOTA 2 since he was
already familiar with DOTA, and they are similar in mechanic.
Prior to starting this new found love for this game, he
consulted with his doctor to make sure that he is fit to play. With this the doctor responded with “If it
